Cleveland has officially welcomed Superman home with the unveiling of a new statue and tribute plaza honoring the character’s roots and creators. The Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster Tribute Plaza, located outside the Huntington Convention Center downtown, now features an 18-foot stainless steel Supe
rman sculpture on a pillar flanked by bronze figures of Siegel, Shuster and Joanne Siegel, the inspiration for Lois Lane.
The installation was celebrated with a community event attended by local officials, comic fans and members of the Siegel & Shuster Society, the group behind the project. The plaza recognizes Cleveland as the birthplace of Superman and celebrates the city’s legacy of imagination and creativity, tracing back to the 1930s when two local high school students created the iconic superhero.
